Kaieteur News – Senior player of Success Masters Team, Mustafaa Azimullah, is confident of his team winning the forthcoming Prime Minister’s Softball Cup three-day tournament slated for November 11-13 under the auspices of the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc.
“Hailing out of a tiny community, the Success Masters team, like every other team, is looking forward to the upcoming Prime Minister Cup. Success Masters has been one of the prominent teams in Master Category over the years. We may not have a power house squad on paper, but we are very optimistic and believe that cricket is played on field,” Azimullah revealed.
Eight teams are set to compete in the Masters Category and Azimullah feels once they play to the best of their abilities, they can dethrone Fisherman Masters.
“Our guys have been in great spirit in preparations for the Prime Minister Cup, we have been grasping every opportunity existing so we [are] aware it’s going to be very competitive in the Masters category, but we are confident and ready for any challenge,” Azimullah related.
This will be the sixth edition of the competition and the GSCL Inc. in collaboration with the Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports will be looking to run off another successful event.
Teams are expected to participate from New York, Florida, Canada and across Guyana.
There are two other categories, Legends (Over-50) and Open (Round-Arm Bowling), while four female teams are set to feature as well.
Like the Masters category (Over-40), the victorious teams will receive $600,000 and a trophy while the runners-up side will take home $50,000 while there will be prizes for outstanding, individual performances. For the Ladies, the winner will get $200,000.
Azimullah stated that his players are anxious to get on the field as well.
The team will be depending heavily on its senior’s players like Azimullah, genuine all-rounder Sham Budhram and the hard-hitting batsmen Hakim Majeed and Vishnu Sadaram with the bat for its success.
“All the other players are well capable and possess the abilities to churn some excellent performances,” Azimullah mentioned.
Meanwhile, matches are fixed for Georgetown on Friday and Saturday before all roads lead to the National Stadium, Providence, for all the finals to be played on Sunday.
