UDFA/GFF Senior Men’s League
Kaieteur News – Double strikes each from Captain Keon Hall and Delon Luke set the platform for a huge 7-0 win for Topp XX over Blueberry Hill FC which marked a hectic weekend for the Upper Demerara Football Association as rivalry in their men’s senior league sponsored by the Guyana Football Federation continued at the mecca for the sport there, Mackenzie Sports Club Ground.
Blueberry Hill never caught their length in a match where the dominance of the Topp XX lads was the order of the day from start to finish. Hall found the back of the nets in the 27th and 37th minutes while Luke scored in the 56th and 78th minutes.
Topp XX’s scorers from right, Keon Hall, Jamal Bentick, Jevon Maynard, Travis Waterton and Delon Luke.
The other players on target for the winners were Jamal Bentick in the 30th, elder statesman Travis Waterton in the 53rd minute and Jevon Maynard in the 89th minute. The other match on Sunday produced a 1-1 stalemate between Hi Stars and Silver Shattas.
Damien Williams’ 39th-minute effort brought parity to the score line for Silver Shattas after they found themselves trailing Hi Stars which took the early lead through an Osadho Ross 7th-minute goal.
On Saturday at the same venue, Eagles United sailed to full points without effort as their intended opponent, Kwakwani FC did not show up for the encounter. The other match played ended in a 1-1 tie between Amelia’s Ward United and Netrockers.
Netrockers raced to the early lead when Amaniki Buntin blasted home in the 8th minute; they did a fantastic job in defending that slim advantage and maybe felt that they were home and dry. But like so often happens in the dying moments of fiercely contested battles, especially with slim advantages, it slipped away in the twinkling of an eye.
Four minutes into added on time was when Amelia’s Ward found the back of the nets to earn an equal share of the points, thanks to an alert Kevin Gittens. The well-placed shot was timely for the boys from the Ward.
League action is set to continue this weekend.
