Commander-in-Chief T20
By Sean Devers
On day three of the Commander-in-Chief T20 Inter-Services cricket tournament at the Eve Leary, GDF defeated Guyana Prisons Services by 41 runs, while Police beat the Guyana Fire Service by 10 wickets Wednesday.
Defending Champions Police will do battle with GDF in the Final on a date to be announced later when the Commander–in-Chief is available to bowl the first ball.
Wednesday a large and vocal gathering watched in sweltering heat as Randy Wade (51), Wicket-Keeper batter Rockell Reddy (45) and Hakim David (31) spearheaded GDF to 164-4 in 20 overs.
GPS responded with 122 all out despite an explosive seven-ball 29 with three sixes and two fours from Tyrell Peters who took 25 runs off the second over of the innings from Paul Castello but only David Wilson (23) of the other batters offered resistance.
David Lounge, who made 16 with the bat, took 4-26 including the first four wickets, and after five overs GPS were 50-4; the best power play from any team in the Tournament.
In the afternoon match, GFS, led by a 65-run fourth wicket stand between Umpire Shannon Crawford and Skipper Suresh Persaud, bettered their previous highest total of 99, by reaching 108.
Stephan Harris (3-11) took the first three wickets to sink GFS to 10-3.
Crawford played some handsome shot including a straight six before he was run out 75-4, while the 39-year-old former first division player Persaud, fell four short of scoring the fifth half-century of this tournament.
Police reached 110 without loss, Troy Benn made an unbeaten 52, his second consecutive fifty and fifth in the tournament, while Ravindradat Budhram who made 33, shared in the first century partnership of the tournament.
