Hibernia Strikes are aiming for success at the forthcoming Prime Minister’s Softball Cup under the auspices of the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc.
The three-day extravaganza is set for November 11-13 and teams are expected from New York, Florida, Canada and across Guyana.
Three male and one female category: for the men Legends (Over-50), Masters (Over-40) and Open (Round-Arm) and eight teams will comprise in each category while four ladies’ sides will be vying for honours.
Captain of Hibernia Strikers Seeram Ramkissoon stated that since they registered, his players have intensified their preparations and is confident that success is a must at the event.
“We are confident of winning the competition,” Ramkissoon declared. Hibernia Strikers will be featuring in the Masters category. He is assured that their hard works will pay great dividends as well.
“I am anticipating stiff competition but we have to go out there and play our best cricket; obviously other teams coming to dominate but we have an opportunity to win this big tournament,” Ramkissoon, stylist right-handed batsman, mentioned.
Like the previous five years, the tournament is organised in collaboration with the Office of the Minister and Ministry Culture, Youth and Sports.
Quizzed on his team’s plans to make an early impression, Ramkissoon, outlined it is about clever cricket and try to hold the advantage throughout the game.
“We going to play good cricket as I said the guys are anxious to get on the field and we have tons of plans that we going to execute from ball one,” Ramkissoon related.
Recently, the President of the League Ian John informed that each winning team for the male will receive $600,000 and a trophy, while the ladies champion side is set to collect $200, 000 and a trophy. John further notified that other attractive prizes are up for grabs.
Ramkissoon mentioned that Hibernia Strikers will be participating in the upcoming Essequibo Softball Cricket League over-40 competition and will use it as part of their preparations.
“Great chance for our guys to see where we can get everything right; yes, we want to win this competition too but our main aim now is to do well at the Prime Minister’s Cup tournament,” Ramkissoon promised.
