Kaieteur News – The Berbice Hindu Society of the Sri Krishna Mandir over the weekend held its annual “Diwali Seva” during which it donated some 350 grocery hampers to the families in need.
The hampers were handed out to single parents, the elderly and other poor families in Berbice, Region Six. Pandit Rajin Balgobind who heads the organisation, related that the initiative was the brainchild of his Guru, Swargavasi Dr. Prema Panduranga of India. “Guruji said that “poverty is a reality, and the antidote is “seva,” selfless service.” Anyone going to bed without a meal is a tragedy, and we need to reach out to the deserving, especially during this Diwali season”, explained the pandit.
