Dear Editor,
A major issue that translates democracy into a real thing is what we know as transparency. Our top political leaders use the term in almost every major public address.
For that reason, I support the Government in its demand that organizations in receipt of state funds account in detail for how state funds have been and are being utilized.
They say what is good for the goose is good for the gander and so Editor, when will the Minister of Finance or the President or the Vice-President make available for public knowledge
(1). How much was handed out to the vendors who lost items at Mon Repos? Names,
sums given, and some acknowledgement or receipt from the beneficiaries.
(2). The sugar workers who were told received 250,000 thousand dollars each, how
many such sugar workers, their locations, and what form of receipt or
acknowledgement is in possession of those who handed out these millions of
dollars?
(3). Send details with respect to the ‘fisherfolk’
(4). Similar information, Region by Region and area by area of those farmers
compensated for their losses as a result of allegedly losing their crops due to
flooding.
I have spoken to some ground provision farmers on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway and some urban farmers who received nothing.
Editor, I ask that these questions be posed to either the functionaries named above so that we are assured that there is a consistency in Government’s policies, statements and behaviour.
Mr. Eric Moseley, MS
