The inaugural Joshua Denny Memorial Under-20 Football Tournament brings its curtains down this evening at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ground, with the staging of the third place playoff and the final.
In the final double header of the two-day tournament, the third place match gets the action going from 18:30 hrs as Camptown and Conquerors go head-to-head then Santos and the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) spring into battle in the feature match from 20:30 hrs.
On September 23rd, the tournament kicked off with the semi-final round that saw Santos trounce Camptown 6 – 1, while GFC defeated the Conquerors 2 – 1.
Earlier this week, the Petra Organisation handed over the Championship Trophy to Joshua’s mother, Aferya Denny, who revealed that the original finale date of September 30 had to be rescheduled due to the activities of the recently concluded Cricket Carnival.
Petra has collaborated with Mrs. Denny to honour the life of the former footballer that played in several Petra Tournaments.
Through this initiative, the parents of Denny and Petra, wish to sensitize the public and more so the youths about working to achieve their goals instead of turning to crime. The theme of the tournament is ‘Mothers Against Violence’.
Mrs. Denny and Petra are very pleased with the response the event has received and wish to invite persons to witness the historic finale.
