==My Testimony==
By Sharmain Grainger
I never was, and most likely will never be, an especially likeable character. And truth be told, throughout my years, I rarely ever considered whether many people liked me or what I represent, a mind-set that was premised on my conviction that I would never have to take my plate to their kitchen for my survival.
Today, I know, without a doubt, I need not be dependent on anyone, but my Saviour. Had it not been for this predisposition, I probably would have been discouraged from professing the name of Jesus after an individual from my past thought it necessary on Friday last to let me know, among other things, that I am being mocked because of my weekly testimony.
But I am heartened by this revelation. It tells me at least people are reading. Added to this, if people despised Jesus – the one who died on the cross for our sins – why should I expect to be liked at this juncture of my life.
At John 15:18-19, those of us who choose to live for Jesus are reminded that, “[18] If the world hates you, remember that it hated me (Jesus) first. [19] The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you.”
While I don’t care for the likes from all and sundry, God has put it in my heart to care about their final destination. Whether you choose to believe it or not, there is a place that each of us will end up; either eternal damnation or reigning with Christ Jesus.
For the scoffers, who have been given the opportunity to see another day, the Amplified version of the bible underscores, even for you, at 2 Peter 3:9-10, “[9] The Lord does not delay [as though He were unable to act] and is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is [extraordinarily] patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” The scripture continues at verse 10: “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will vanish with a [mighty and thunderous] roar, and the [material] elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and the works that are on it will be burned up.”
Interpret that however you wish but I assure you that the time will come when earthly ‘powers’ will not shield those who possess them from what is imminent. The time will come when people will wish that they had taken the popular John 3:16 scripture seriously: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
Because I know for a fact that living for Jesus is a deal of a lifetime, I am determined to let as many people as possible know about His saving grace – the wonderful gift that is available to all of us.
It is for this very reason I was compelled, not so long ago, to tell a prominent individual in the land about Jesus. I somehow sense this individual suffers from Thanatophobia (an intense fear of death or the dying process) and needs to know that being free from that bondage is as simple as believing in Jesus who specialises in making a way where there seems to be no way. According to Mark 10:27, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God.”
My willingness to share the message of Jesus with that prominent person was described by this individual from my past as having some “cojones”. Interestingly, while there were others around, that individual was nowhere in the room during my encounter with that prominent person. But news about Jesus must get around one way or another, for everyone deserves to know about the goodness of God. Even this prominent person, who is no different from the rest of us, is eligible to know about the gift of Jesus dying on the cross for all, and not just a few. Why must this person live in mortal fear when they simply don’t have to?
According to Romans 10:13, “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
It is time that people stop believing the lies that are being peddled as truth – those lies that try to convince us that we have what it takes to preserve our own existence by acquiring material things and making profane bargains.
Proverbs 14:12 outlines that, “There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.” But there is hope. Jesus ensured that through the bible, we are made aware that He is “the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me (John 14:6)”, and that “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I (Jesus) came that they may have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10).”
But even though the Supreme Being is merciful, He will not sit back indefinitely waiting for us to respond to His gentle call to come as we are and repent of our sins. According to Romans 1:28, “Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done.”
In fact, it is scriptural that the majority of human beings will choose to ignore Him. For the few who are willing to tune in to His gentle call, He is saying at Matthew 7:13-14, “[13] Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. [14] But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
If you desire to be saved from an undesirable destination, today I share with you the sinner’s prayer. Please don’t delay another day – choose Jesus and He will choose you too; deny Him and He will deny you. Matthew 10:32-33 states: “[32] Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. [33] But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.”
