Dear Editor,
Freddie Kissoon, in his KN column of 19th September, challenges a statement I made in a letter published the same day in KN under the title: ‘The PPP also supported a clean voters list and biometrics.’ The matter is of national importance. So, I have decided to promptly respond.
The statement that bothers Kissoon is: ‘Of the several thousands of names APNU+AFC submitted to GECOM as persons for whom votes were cast although they were out of the jurisdiction on election day, over 75% has been confirmed by the Chief Immigration Officer.’
In true Kissoon style, he simultaneously asks for the source of the numbers, but already jumps to the conclusion that the whole thing is a fiction. This obviously is a man who has already closed his mind. Showing such a person evidence might therefore be a waste of time. Such mindsets are predisposed to rejecting truth and facts that do not fit with their pet theories.
But let me try. Apart from seeing the relevant documents myself, I refer Kissoon to an article in the very newspaper he writes for. The article appeared in KN 10th September and is captioned ‘More than 100 overseas Guyanese fingered in Opposition fraud list voted at 2020 polls.’ The KN article supported its own conclusion by stating: ‘This is according to information seen by this publication following the release of documents pertaining to voter fraud.’
So, not only have I and others seen the numbers, but also Kaieteur News, Kissoon’s hirer. Is that good enough, Freddie?
I am hereby tasking Kissoon to ask his Editor to see the GECOM documents in the possession of KN. In addition, if Kissoon is really interested in the truth, then he should join the call for GECOM to publicly release the confirmation it received from the Chief Immigration Officer showing that votes were cast for persons who were out of the country on Election Day. Those two tasks are the least Kissoon can do to demonstrate his honesty on this issue.
Lastly, Kissoon states that ‘it should have been the PNC, AFC, ACDA, Cuffy 250, IDPADA-G and all those African-rights organisations that should have clamoured for the release of the document not the Attorney General.’ Why does Kissoon so often believe that because he personally did not read, see or hear something, it means it doesn’t exist or it can’t be true?
Should he check the media reports and press releases during the recount, he would see that the Opposition did far more than just call for the release of the documents. It demanded a full investigation into the many cases of voter impersonation. However, under PPP threat of legal action, and fearing the truth herself, the GECOM chair aborted the initial investigation. All this is info in the public domain or easy to verify.
But to repeat. I call on Kissoon and others to join the call for GECOM to openly release all the Immigration verification reports. Let the people see and judge for themselves the existence and extent of voter impersonation.
Sincerely,
Sherwood Lowe
