Atlantic Supplies Inc/Susuki Motor Cycles T20 Marines Tourney…
By Sean Devers
Former Guyana First-Class batter Shemroy Barrington returned to local cricket with a commanding unbeaten 79 and shared in a 154-run unfinished opening stand to help Malteenoes beat MYO as the GCA Atlantic Supplies Inc/Susuki Motor Cycles T20 Marines Second division cricket tournament continued at three grounds, yesterday.
At Malteenoes, the home team, on the back of a 51-ball 79 with four fours and seven sixes from Barrington and a solid 68 from 44 balls with seven fours and four sixes from Stephon Browne, MSC reached 154 without loss in 15.4 overs, replying to MYO’s 153-4 in their allotted 20 overs.
Keon Morris top scored with 36 while Richard Latiff and Vishwanauth Ramlakan supported with 25 each for MYO.
In the morning game at DCC, West Indies U-19 pacer Isiah Throne smashed five sixes and a four in a 34-ball 65 before he was run out in the final over as 4-R Lions reached 185-5.
Thorne contributed in the 139-run fourth wicket partnership with Tomanuai Ceaser, who made an unbeaten 63 from 38 balls with five fours and three sixes after joining forces when Romeo Deonarain fell for eight at 39-4.
David Dick picked up 2-20 for GNIC, who replied with 159-9, as Lesroy Collins (44), Dick (27) and Junior Blair (26 not out) saw GNIC to a controveral one-wicket win after 50 penalty runs were added to their score. The tournament rules state that fast bowlers must bowl no less than 40 percent (8 overs) of the 20 overs or the penalty will be imposed. However, only three overs were bowled by 4-R Lions, who argued that off-spinner Richard Dowletcome, who took 3-23, was a fast bowler because he bowled mostly flat, with pace in addition to not turning the ball.
This is the same match that young Deonarain bowled beautifully to take 4-1, is reportedly being protested by 4-R Lions.
In the afternoon game at DCC, GCC batted first on a lightning fast outfield and a good batting track to reach 193-3 in 20 overs.
Led by an elegant 52 from 40 balls with five fours, a brutal 10-ball 47 with six sixes and a four from Skipper Devon Lord, 42 from 43 balls with four fours and two sixes from Martin Bell-Pestano and 36 from Timothy Mc McAlmont, the GCC batters battered the DCC bowlers.

In sweltering heat, DCC were bowlers were flayed to all parts of the small ground and several times way over the boundary as McCalmont clobbered Dexter George while Lord hit Joshua Persuad for four consecutive sixes in the carnage in Queenstown.
DCC were bowled out with for 71 with Joshua Persaud (15) being the only person to reach double figures as Bernard Bailey took 4-16, while Lord returned with the ball to capture 2-1.
At QC, Lennox Andrews hit six fours and eight sixes in a pugnacious 87 from just 45 balls while Dwain Dick reached the boundary twice and cleared it three times in his 36, while Trevor Benn contributed 18 as Police reached 178-6 in 20 overs.
Shawn Massiah took 2-41 for Transport SC who replied 140-9. Akeem Redman’s 61 with four fours and five sixes while Shamal Angel with 24 and Rafael Singh with 11, were the only other batters to reach double figures.
Off-spinner Dwain Dick was virtually unplayable finishing with 5-6 from four frugal overs while leg-spinner Vishaul Jaigobin took 3-19.
