On the heels of one of the largest ever Guyana Cup Horse Racing event, the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee (JJTRC) has definitely raised the bar with a collage of fans from all walks of life.
Guyana Cup was hosted at the Rising Sun Turf Club and was executed seamlessly with a patronage of over 15,000 all reveling under the sun. The eight races were the talk of the day with the winners comfortably earning their bragging rights and the top jockeys maintaining immaculate form.
Inducted to the Cricket Carnival event calendar is the much anticipated President’s Cup carded for Sunday, September 18 at the Rising Sun Turf Club, West Coast Berbice.
President’s Cup was created by Mr. Infanally Habibulla in 1992 in honor of His Excellency, President Cheddi Jagan. As the founder of the Rising Sun Racing Stable, Habibulla was instrumental in the birth and upliftment of competitive sport of Horse Racing in Guyana.
The President’s Cup then grew from strength to strength until the last official race that attracted a patronage of over 5,000.
The mantle and event planning responsibility were then handed down to Nasrudeen ‘Junior’ Mohamed, Head of the JJTRC, who continued the flagship racing event for two years until the pandemic caused an untimely pause in racing events.
Due to the influx of international horses within the last 6 months and the fierce competition from previous events held over a two-month period, the President’s Cup is expected be extremely well attended by new and seasoned horse owners.
When contacted, Habibulla indicated, “I am proud of the accomplishments of my father who paved the way for us and other stables to take Horse Racing to another level. I am equally as proud of the JJTRC and by extension Nasrudeen “Junior” Mohamed for his time and dedication to Horse Racing especially after such a successful Guyana Cup 2022. Every racing stable wants to take home a trophy after the months of training and countless hours put in by the horsemen so events like President’s Cup are extremely important. We expect a larger attendance due to the number of foreigners expected for the Cricket and Carnival.”
The JJTRC welcomes fans to join the road to the attending the biggest events in Guyana’s Horse Racing history with the President’s Cup being the next on the card with over $10 million dollars in cash and prizes to be won.
