Kaieteur News – As the weather pattern continues to change, flashes of lightning and sounds of thunder, complemented by bouts of rainfall, are seemingly becoming the norm.
In fact, there have been instances where lightning bolts have struck houses, trees, and recently, a man was killed reportedly by a bolt of lightning that struck him while out at sea.
Amanda Beaton’s Wellington Park, Corentyne, Berbice home was the most recent target of the bizarre phenomenon.
Her home and appliances inside were damaged due to a lightning strike on Monday night.
Beaton told reporters that it was raining, and this was complemented by an apparent lightning and thunderstorm, and then a power outage followed. She said she got up to turn off the main switch of the house but in a matter of minutes, she heard a loud “boom”.
“All I hear is like boom and a hard sound and the place start shake. When I watch the current switch, everything burn and when I go in the room, no glass on the window. The boards dem split up, the glass dem fall off,” Beaton said.
The woman said that appliances, including a microwave, her fridge, the internet and electricity lines were all “fried”.
Beaton lives in the home with two others, including her daughter.
