The Guyana Mixed Martial Arts Karate Association held an International Karate Championship at the Guyana National Gymnasium, First of its kind, featuring Guyana and Suriname last Sunday.
Head of the association, Master Lloyd Ramnarine, expressed thanks to Director of Sports in the National Sports Commission Mr. Steve Ninvalle for his presence, which he stated, was highly appreciated. Master Lloyd expressed the desire to work along with the Director of Sports and the Commission so Karate can be more recognized in Guyana.
He thanked the other special invitees for their presence and the head tournament Sensei, Eon McFarlane and all the other judges, referees and members of the head table for all playing an important role in the event.
Master Lloyd Ramnarine lauded the parents for supporting their children and he wished that they continue.
In results from the action: Zafar Ramnarine, Alliyah Ramnarine and Jaffar Ramnarine all together captured 1st in team kata. Chandrapaul Sukhu 1st in Traditional kata, Jaffar Ramanrine 1st in kata, Aryan Bahadur 1st in Traditional Bo staff and traditional kata. Julie Ramnarine first in traditional kata, Chad Phang first in Kumite, Raj Persaud first in Traditional kata, Patrick Bob first in kumite, Malinie Shiwcharan first in kumite. Mahendra Gorakh first in Kumite, Rosealin Samaroo first in Traditional kata, Aanisah Deen First in kumite, Alexandra Deen first in kumite, Chaitram Haripershad first in traditional kata, Chaitram Ramator first in traditional kata and Kishan Ramparic, our only Surinamese, captured first in kumite and second in traditional kata.
Abrar Wahid first in traditional kata, Jerrie Melville, Ari Eli first in kumite, Jaden Neblett first in traditional kata, Jediah Neblett first in traditional kata, Reyon France first in kumite, Tyrese Stanton first in Kumite and Jayden Dwarka first in Kumite.
The tournament was a successful one and they are hoping to have another International event sometime between February and May 2023. Moreover, in the year 2024 they would have their first Guyana NAFMA International Championship. Students will be selected from that tournament to enter the 2025 NAFMA World Cup Championship.
