Kaieteur News – Canada continued to dominate the ICC World Cup Challenge League A limited-over tournament after recording an emphatic 188-run win over Qatar on Wednesday at King City, North Toronto.
The hosts have now got four wins from as many matches in the six-team competition. Canada will play their final preliminary round match today, Friday at the same venue against Vanuatu.
Canada batted first and rattled up a respectable 275-9 from the 50-overs, while Qatar were bowled out for 91 in the 26th over.
For Canada skipper and opener Navneet Dhaliwah hit an impressive 103 laced with 12 fours during his 116-ball stay at the crease. He got support from Ravinderpal Singh who struck an unbeaten 56 and Nicolas Kirton scored 37. Mohammed Nadeem finished with 3-41 from his maximum ten overs and Muhammad Murad with 3-47 in his nine-over outing.
When Qatar batted, only Zaheeruddeen Ibrahim with a fighting 34 made significant contributions as former Guyana fast-bowler Jeremy Gordon snatched 4-22 off six overs and left-arm spinner Salman Nazar with 3-27 off 5.5 overs.
The top team in each league at the end of the competition will secure two of the six places in the Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Playoff to be held later in 2022, alongside the bottom four of Men’s CWC League 2. The top two teams from the playoff continue in the hunt to participate in India, 2023.
Meanwhile, Dillon Heyliger is the other Guyanese in the team. The Essequibian Heyliger also represented Guyana but at the youth level. In the first match, Heyliger had a five-wicket haul against Denmark. In this game, Heyliger made 10 but did not take a wicket in his two overs which cost 11 runs.
