“A wise person once said, ‘In one drop of water are found all the secrets of all the oceans’ and just like that drop of water here at God Drip, we believe that everything we as humans do represent who we are.”

Kaieteur News – Businesses that cater to the customised needs of their customers are fast becoming popular in our society. This not only goes to show how business in general is evolving but it shows that many people are desirous of having a unique touch to the products they want to buy.
It was with this very focus in mind that 19-year-old Jonathan Williams decided to open his own customising business; he saw the need for a wider expression of personal identity.
His business, which is called ‘God Drip’, is one he co-owns with his friends, Angelie Persaud and Vibert Dummett. It was launched back in February 2020.
In a recent interview, Williams explained that his business was not only created to have an impact on people but to allow persons to express who they truly are.
“A wise person once said, ‘In one drop of water is found all the secrets of all the oceans’ and just like that drop of water here at God Drip, we believe that everything we as humans do represent who we are,” he said.
He added that “from the choices we make to the way we dress, down to something as small as the case that we have on our phone, it is all considered drip that can be taken as part of who we are as a person.”
The word ‘drip’, for those who may not know, is a term the younger generation uses to describe someone’s sense of style, similar to that of the word ‘swag’.
According to Williams, “…one day I asked myself if these things outwardly express who we are why not have the ability to truly customise them to accurately portray us other than settling for generic stuff that could make us look like anyone else.”
Aiming for the unique, Williams decided to become the solution to his question and this is what really ignited the desire to set up the business.
“I later shared my vision with a team of young talented locals who specialise in different aspects and the business started from there,” Williams disclosed.
With Persaud being in charge of the customised phone cases aspect of the business and Dummett being in charge of the art work aspect, Williams said that they have been able to put in the work and meet customers’ needs as it comes.
According to the young man, having been in business for over two years now, the support they have been receiving is nothing less than great. He noted that their target market is usually young adults, event planners and businesses that are interested in displaying their identity with customised designs. He noted too that of recent, they have been noticing a number of requests from overseas based customers which is really a big step for them.
“Putting these things into consideration, I still think there is a great room for expansion,” he pointed out.
The young man went on to note that among the challenges he and his team have faced is the lack of reliable and affordable suppliers for the quality of materials needed for the business. To overcome this challenge, Williams said, they had to reassess the business approach which resulted in them moving from sourcing their materials internationally to sourcing them locally. “Then I made the business online based for a larger market, then I decided to only create things by demand to lower upfront cost and to maximise profit,” he added.
Even as the business was becoming popular, last year they were forced to halt their operation for a prolonged period because of the pandemic. But since re-opening back in March this year, it has been smooth sailing ever since, Williams confided.
According to our featured entrepreneur, as the business continues to blossom, the long-term goal is to become a large-scale supplier of custom and regular apparel, phone cases and unique artwork products. “I intend on expanding the business to utilise a lot of things and talents that we have locally that are undervalued,” he added.
Williams, who would like to see local products and talent be featured prominently in society, is of the view that young entrepreneurs today play a pivotal role in the development of society.
“We are the ones who have to face the consequences of the people before us, find solutions for present issues, while paving the future of the country which will affect generations to come in this technological era,” the young man said.
In assisting with the country’s development, he thinks more can be done locally to boost small businesses in order to contribute to advancing the nation. He suggested, among other things, that more financial aid be given to assist small business owners, and that the authorities should make business seminars more accessible to persons of all ages so that they can understand how to contribute more meaningfully.
“The only way we can truly develop as a nation is if we learn to support our own,” he asserted.
