Kaieteur News – A total of 14 contractors have entered the national competitive bidding process for the Ministry of Home Affairs contract which is to construct a training facility at the Timehri Prison.
The facility, which will benefit the inmates there, is estimated to cost $102 million, according to the Ministry’s engineer. Out of the 14 contractors, it was DS Investment that indicated that it can build the facility just under a $100 million – $95 million. The bids from the other contractors were over $100 million.
As reported, the Ministry over the months has facilitated a number of training programmes for inmates of the Timehri, Lusignan and Mazaruni prisons which are aimed at preparing them for re-integration into society. Already over 800 inmates from all three prisons have been trained in a number of areas, such as anger management, entrepreneurship, carpentry, tailoring, culinary arts, joinery, barbering, and veterinary sciences.
This project will form part of the $47.9 billion that was allocated in this year’s budget to boost public security.
