Kaieteur News – Horse racing fans in Guyana will have an opportunity to be a part of horse racing action on Sunday 31st July. The occasion will be the Port Mourant Turf Club Pre Emancipation Horse race meet at the Club’s track, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice. Over 60 horses have already entered for the day’s event.
The event is being run under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) using updated classification.
Some eight races are listed for the day with over $6M in cash trophies and other incentives up for the taking.
The feature event will be an open race for all horses with a winning purse of $1M and the Banks DIH Trophy over 8 furlongs.
The other events will see horses competing in the race for three years’ old Guyana and West Indies bred horses also over 8 furlongs for a winning take of $500,000 and trophy.
There is also an event for F and lower horses over 6.5 furlongs also with winning purse of $500,000.
The two years old Guyana and West Indies bred horses will see the winner taking home $400,000 and trophy over 5 furlongs.
The H class horses will also be battling for $400,000 and trophy over a 6 furlongs’ distance.
Horses classified I and lower will race over 8 furlongs for a winner’s haul of $200,000 and trophy.
Another $200,000 and trophy is available for the winner of the J3 maiden (first time starters) event over 6 furlongs.
The final event will have the L class maiden animals battling it out 6 furlongs for a winning purse of 160,000 and trophy.
According to the organisers a number of newly imported horses from USA the Caribbean and Suriname among other countries are slated to participate.
Entries are expected to close today 25th July.
There will be other attractions for the entire family and children and action starts at 12:00 hrs. Musical entrainment will be provided by Crown Vibes. Coordinator is Turbo Gingo Jagdeo.
