Pugnacious opening batsman and Canada-based Guyanese Riaz Kadir plundered nine four and 13 sixes to hit an enterprising, unbeaten 132 as VP Boys beat Bee Hives Sports Club by 223 runs on Sunday at Glen Forest Secondary School ground in Mississauga where action continued in the 2022 Canadian Premier Softball Cricket League (CPSCL) 100-ball round-robin competition.
Arguably, one of the most hard-hitting softball batsmen in this contemporary generation, Kadir flayed the attack with an array of strokes to see VP Boys racked up a massive 275-3 from the 100 deliveries, while Bee Hives Sports Club only reached an unsatisfactory 52-7 from the 100 balls.
Dillon Heyliger and Royston Crandon, two prominent Guyanese cricketers, joined the runs-fest making 65 and 50 respectively in support of the rampant and right-handed Kadir.
And across at Lancaster, also in the same Municipality, Essequibian-born Gavin Prashad produced an excellent all-round performance to inspire Tricity Ravens to a commanding seven-wicket victory over Amazon Masters.
Masters made 105 all out off 80 balls with Prashad historically grabbing 4-20 from 20 balls including a hat-trick while he belted six sixes and two fours in his unbeaten 52 as Tricity Ravens achieved the target off 62 balls.
Skipper Roopnarine Lalbeharri offered support to Prashad with 39. In Masters’ innings, Suresh Ragoonauth scored 32 while Azeez Baksh hit 31 and 28 from Lindon Persaud.
Details from the other games were not available but the quarter-finals are set for July 23rd.
