CWI Women’s U19 Rising Stars T20 tournament…
PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad – The Windward Islands handed the Leeward Islands a 122-run defeat at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex as the CWI Women’s U19 Rising Stars T20 tournament continued on Friday. . Batting first, Windwards posted the highest total for the event so far of 176-8 in their 20 overs. The runs came from the bats of left-hander Jannellia Glasgow with 38 off 30 balls with six fours, and Namiah Marcellin who scored a brisk 37 off 26 balls with seven boundaries. The total was boosted by a whopping 53 extras. Right-arm medium fast Jahzara Claxton with 3-0-29-3 and right-arm medium pacer Kimberly Anthony with 4-0-15-2 were the best Leewards bowlers.
Glasgow, then returned with the new ball to be the star bowler. She returned impressive figures of 4-2-3-3, while Abini St. Jean finished with 3-0-7-3 and Zaida James 2.5-0-11-2 as the Windwards were bowled out for 35 in 13.5 overs. Claxton was the lone batter to reach double figures, she scored 11 off 39 balls, which included two fours.
Jamaica edge Guyana by 18 runs (DLS Method) – Jamaica earned their first win with an 18-run result over Guyana at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. Batting first, Lena Scott added her name to the tournament’s run-scorers after she smashed an unbeaten 43 (56) which included six boundaries. Kate Wilmott also got into the action with a run-a-ball 29 not out, as Jamaica posted 115-4 from their 20 overs.
With the rain playing spoilsport on their innings, Guyana reached 87-4 from their rain-reduced 18 overs, thereby losing on the (via the Duckworth/Lewis/Stern method. Right-handed opening batter Naomi Barkoye continued her good form, smashing three boundaries on her way to a 27 off 44 balls, while Sarah Amin remained not out on 12. Bowling for the Jamaicans, Kimarie Campbell finished with the excellent figures of 3-0-7-2.
Rain washes out USA vs Barbados – The USA had Barbados on the backfoot before the rain forced an abandonment of the match. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Bajans were pegged back 16-3 in 3.5 overs. Seam bowler Jivana Aras grabbed all three wickets to fall, by the time the rains came, she had figures of 1.5-0-6-3.
