Kaieteur News – Police have arrested a man from Bush Lot, East Berbice Corentyne, for allegedly stabbing his neighbour to death yesterday.
The dead man has since been identified as Rameshwar Sydney, a 47-year-old cash crop farmer of Lot 232 Bush lot Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
Police Divisional Commander, Boodnarine Persaud, during a visit to the relatives of the dead man yesterday with a team of ranks, told Kaieteur News that they have since arrested the suspect who reportedly committed the act.
It was revealed by the victim’s sister-in-law, Asha Tomby, that the incident took place at approximately 13:00 hrs yesterday at Sydney’s neighbour’s house, located three lots away in the village.
Tomby said, based on information related to her, the suspect identified as ‘Joey’ visited Sydney’s home and asked him to go over to his house where he was imbibing.
According to the sister-in-law, Sydney ventured over and shortly after, ran out from Joey’s yard with a knife stuck in his neck.
“Rameshwar went but like me nah know what happened and he like he bore him and he ran out and when he ran out of the house, he like he can’t make it and he fell in front of the gate here,” she added.
The woman disclosed that it was a security guard who was passing that saw Sydney fall to the ground and he alerted a neighbour who subsequently called on the victim’s wife.
She ran out and saw him bleeding profusely, and with the assistance of neighbours rushed him to the Port Mourant Hospital, where he succumbed to his injury.
Sydney leaves to mourn his five children, wife, other relatives and close friends. He was described as a hard-working family man. An investigation is underway.
