Jul 03, 2022 Letters
Dear Editor,
I rise very early. My delivery girl brings the newspaper early too. Therefore, I read them as soon as they are delivered because my job as an opinion-maker dictates that. One Sunday morning, I read the interview in the Stabroek News with Mr. Lawrence Latchmansingh on the role of the Catholic Church as part of civil society.
Immediately, I went to the keyboard to question the role of the Catholic Church in the ethnic and political healing process in troubled Guyana. Please my letter of Monday, May 30, 2022 in the Stabroek News with the title, “I do not see Mr. Latchmansingh as part of any effort to civilize political discourse in Guyana.”
I now repeat the same feeling on Saturday morning of June 2 when I read a letter by Eusi Kwayana captioned, “The public needs to know exactly what this Commissioner of Inquiry into the elections will investigate.” I was stunned by the hypocritical headline because of the exchanges in the press that I had with Kwayana when the March 2020 general elections were being rigged.
His attitude was unambiguous. He wrote that he could not pronounce on what was taking place in the Ashmins Building because he was too far away. Since that exchange in which Mr. Kwayana cited geographical distance as his excuse for not condemning the election, I have done 19 pieces exposing the self-destruction of Eusi Kwayana.
Here is an enumeration;
(1) – Friday, March 13, 2020, “Questions maybe Messrs Bhagwan and Kwayana may never answer.” (2) – Sunday, April 19, 2020, “Eusi Kwayana: Edward Said on Sartre.” (3) – Tuesday, April 28, 2020, “Eusi Kwayana knows a little of me, nothing of Claudette Singh.” (4) – Sunday, May 10, 2020, “After this, we will never see some Guyanese the same way again.”
(5) – Friday, May 15, 2020, “Kwayana’s position makes Walter Rodney turn in his grave.” (6) – Monday, June 8, 2020, “Kwayana is revealing a tendency to malice, never before seen.” (7) – Wednesday, June 10, 2020, “WPA and AFC: People’s Power, No Dictator.” (8) – Thursday, July 2, 2020, “The pathetic, unbelievable, political decline of Eusi Kwayana.” (9) – Wednesday, July 8, 2020, “I don’t give a damn who is Indian, African, White, etc.” (10) – Monday, July 20, 2020, People like Jeffrey, Hinds and people like the ordinary Joe.” (11) – Saturday, July 25, 2020, “Eusi Kwayana: Long journey back into Sydney King.”
(12) – Saturday, August 7, 2020, “Nagamootoo, Kwayana, Green: Secrets of Guyanese politics.” (13) – Wednesday, October 22, 2020, “Eusi Kwayana: The disgraceful fall of an icon.” (14) – Sunday, November 1, 2020, “To Kwayana, I say I am proud of 50 years of tantrums.” (15) – Saturday, November 7, 2020, “Lewis, Kwayana, Alexander: The facts and the truths of Guyana.” (16) – Saturday, February 13, 2021, “Mr. Kwayana, show some respect for your age. Please!” (17) – Monday, March 15, 2021, “Eusi Kwayana was a tragic revelation in my life.” (18) – Monday, April 12, 2021, “The WPA’s great evaders have found their voice.” (19) -Saturday, April 10, 2021, “Kwayana at 96: The runner stumbles.”
Isn’t it funny that because of distance, Kwayana couldn’t pronounce on the rigging but since March 2020, he has written more than 10 letters to the Guyanese newspapers commenting on developments here? The question is; how the distance allows him to see these things?
How being far away in the US, Mr. Kwayana knows about an altercation in parliament between a PPP and PNC parliamentarian? How does he know that the police shot a man in his bed in Dartmouth, Essequibo? So we come to his current letter. Where did he get the information on what that the Guyanese people need to know?
I live in Guyana and I believe a majority of Guyanese knows exactly what the commission will be investigating with regard to the March 2020 election.
To this day, Mr. Kwayana has not penned one word acknowledging that the election results were being tampered with from March to July in 2020.
I want to end by going on record as saying that Mr. Kwayana has been one of the biggest disappointments not in my political life but my life in general. I look back at the millions of times I defended him in conversations with my mother and mother-in-law. Both ladies have gone to their final reward and I feel penetrating angst that the stupidity of youth prevented me from seeing the flaws of Homo sapiens. Drs Clive Thomas and Rupert Roopnaraine, like Kwayana, have not uttered one word about the rigged election of 2020. You really have to feel sorry deep inside your emotion make-up that Walter Rodney was so terribly betrayed.
Sincerely,
Frederick Kissoon
