Jonathan Van Lange struck a half century as Demerara beat Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Rising Stars by 52 runs when the GCB Inter County U17 50-over tournament continued on Wednesday at LBI.
Demerara Under-17 won toss and decided to bat, but found themselves in early trouble as they were reduced to 37-5, losing the wickets of Jadon Campbell (05), Romeo Deonarain (01), Mavindra Dindyal (10), Alvin Mohabir (04) and Zachary Jodha (00).
However, Jonathan Van Lange and Sachin Balgobin added 33 for the sixth wicket before Balgobin went for eight while Van Lange put on another useful partnership of 22 for the seventh wicket with Shiloh Adams (08).
Van Lange stood tall as he struck one four and three sixes in a top score of 60 which came off 75 balls as Demerara made 126 all out in 40.3 overs. Jayden Dowlin captured 4-31 and Nityanand Mathura bagged 3-15.
Mohabir made early inroads to stifle the chase, picking up the wickets of Anthony Khan (01), Kevin Kisten (01) and Nityanand Mathura (05), while Rampersaud Ramnauth (03) and Jeremiah Hohenkirk (12) were both run out as Rising Stars were limited to 36-5.
Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals and Rising Stars responded with 74 for 9 in 32.1 overs. Mohabir claimed 3-8 and Dindyal had 3- 12. Van Lange was named man of the match for his efforts.
