Former Essequibo Under-19 batsman, Oliver Manram, struck a blistering 121 to spur Essequibo Coast Cricket Club to a massive 117-run win over 3 Counties/Miss Pheobe last weekend when action continued in the 2022 Ontario Softball Cricket League (OSCL) Regular Season 20-overs competition at Ellesmere ground, Scarborough.
The right-handed Manram slammed 10 sixes and five fours as his team piled up a formidable 266-1 from the 20-overs and then restricted 3 Counties/Miss Pheobe to 149-5 from the 20-overs.
Manram, who also represented prominent club Ravens in Region Two, (Pomeroon-Supenaam) got support from Sanjay Kumar who scored an unbeaten 101. They two also participated in a terrific, 251-run opening stand.
When 3 Counties/Miss Pheobe batted, Ravi Kanduparthi offered a fight with 62.
At same venue, the same day, former Guyana youth player Krishna Deosaran continued his outstanding form to hit 66 to follow up his 109 not out the previous weekend playing for Leguan Warriors who got the better of Enmore by 49 runs. Leguan Warriors reached a competitive 165-6 from the 20-overs and then bowled out Enmore for 116 in the 18th over.
Deosaran received assistance from Devon Rambarran who scored 37 as Mahesh Ramroop took 3-8 off four overs. In Enmore’s innings, skipper and Guyanese-born Shiv Persaud made 37 as Rajin Persaud (unrelated) and Abdool Azeez collected 4 and 3 three wickets respectively.
And at Dean Park, Carr Tec beat Better-Hope by seven wickets. Better-Hope totaled up an insufficient 131-6 from the 20-overs while Carr Tec safely reached 133-3 with seven balls remaining. Ian Bladeo led the way for Carr Tec with 27 not out while captain and ex-Guyana under-19 cricketer Rovendra Mandolall made 26. Amit Arjun was the top-scorer for Better-Hope with 41. Details from the other matches were not available but the 14-team competition will continue on July 9th with a bunch of matches across the Greater Toronto Area. Mercenary team is the defending champion and leading the points table with 54 points from nine wins out of nine games as well.
Meanwhile, Shiv Persaud, the President of the League, has expressed disappointment with several teams who forfeited their games on a regular basis. He however, is optimistic the season will continue to be exciting. He added that there is a great amount of satisfaction with how things are going so far in this year’s edition. He pointed out that this year the League is running off one division but will return to the traditional Division 1 and 2 in the New Year.
According to Shiv Persaud, the Regular Season 20-over competition will have its final preliminary round this month-end and will resume early September with the playoff segment. In August, the leader stated they will have the 15 and 10-overs competition started and completed. Notably, Shiv Persaud is a current player of Enmore and the president of the Scarborough Cricket Association, the hard-ball association.
