Berbice defeated the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Rising Stars by 13 runs when the GCB Inter County U17 50-over tournament continued on Wednesday at LBI.
Berbice made 132 for 9 off their reduced 45 overs. Ari-Afrizal Kadir and Romesh Bharat added 21 for the opening stand before Kadir (07) was taken off Jayden Dowlin. Rampertab Ramnauth (09) was bowled by Collis Harcourt, while Rashaad Gaffur (04) was caught off Anthony Khan as Berbice continued to lose wickets at regular intervals including that of Bharat for 15 off 84 balls, and were subsequently reduced to 68-5.
A sixth wicket stand of 39 between Matthew Pottoya and Sanjay Algoo added some respectability to the score. Pottoya made 44 off 53 balls with one four and three sixes while Algoo scored 15 as Wavell Allen claimed 3-15 and Nityanand Mathura 2-21.
GCB Rising Stars lost opener Khan (11) caught off Algoo with the score on 15, while Kevin Kisten (14) bowled by Afraz Ali Budhoo leaving the score at 36-2. Wickets continued to fall regularly, before Nyron Hicks and Wavell Allen put on 50 for the ninth wicket to frustrate Berbice somewhat. But their resistance ended when Allen was run out for 25 off 38 balls. Hicks was also run out for 29 off 40 balls as Rising Stars were bowled out for 119 in 45 overs.
Sanjay Algoo captured 3-20, Afraz Ali Budhoo 2-20 and Salim Khan 2-21. Pottoya was named man of the match.
