The Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee is elated with thanks as support from various companies pour in for the 14th Annual Guyana Cup carded for Sunday, August 14. JS Guyana Inc. is the newest member of the corporate community that has committed support for the racing event with a very generous sponsorship.
JS Guyana Inc. is a subsidiary of the Junior Sammy Group Of Companies and has become a household name in Guyana with the unveiling of the Eccles to Mandela Avenue project. Through their years of expertise, they were able to execute the project bringing an international standard to Guyana. Their success and execution of large scale civil contracts has undoubtedly set a higher benchmark. JS Guyana Inc. has donated millions of dollars to various charitable organizations spanning from flood victims in the interior to orphanages around Georgetown.
Horse racing has become one of the riches sports in the world and is no stranger to the Sammy family through their involvement in Trinidad. Now, as they have broadened their scope to Guyana they were excited to show support to the Guyana Cup organizers.
The event is showing phenomenal growth due to the two-year gap in racing and the importation of over 30 new thoroughbred horses. Various stables ceased the opportunity to purchase these international thoroughbreds to further strengthen their competitive edge.
When contacted Mr. Shaun Sammy outlined, “Our family has supported Horse Racing for quite some time. When we were offered the opportunity to sponsor Guyana Cup our team made a swift decision to extend assistance. For an event to outlive 14 years with such a momentum in 2022 definitely means the organizers are doing something right. We have spoken at length with Mr. Nasrudeen ‘Senior’ Mohamed (Jumbo Jet) who gave us the history of where they started and where the event is headed. JS Guyana Inc. has a passion for growth and longevity so the vision for Guyana Cup was an easy sell to us. We look forward to our first year with the event and I am certain it wouldn’t be the last.”
The Guyana Cup is an event you don’t want to miss, suitable for all. The countdown has officially begun to the largest Thoroughbred Racing meet in the Caribbean which takes place at the Rising Sun Turf Club.
The event has attracted a patronage of over 10,000 horseracing fanatics at the Rising Sun Turf Club, Berbice in past years. This year will be no exception as racing enthusiasts were starving for horseracing for approximately 2 years due to the pandemic.
The horses are being groomed, the track is being prepared and the fans are ready for race day filled with activities for children and live entertainment for all ticket holders.
The Guyana Cup horserace event is being touted as one for the entire family. Apart from the horseracing action, which makes it the biggest of its kind locally with over $30M in prizes on offer, other entertainment is on the cards for the entire family.
Security will also be heightened to ensure the safety of all patrons and fans with the recent inclusion of A&R Security as part of the setup to offer a more professional approach to the running of the day’s activities. The organisers are saying that this is one horserace event that no fan and those interested in a fun day in the countryside would want to miss.
