==Young Entrepreneur On The Move==
“We have tons of persons who aren’t employed and as such because of frustration in society, it leads to crime and violence. By investing in young persons who show that interest, it creates a pathway for young budding individuals who can contribute greatly to the economy and to society as a whole.”

Kaieteur News – “I ventured into business when I realised, I no longer wanted to sit two hours or more to get my nails done.” Those are the words of Shanice Wilburgh, a young entrepreneur who now operates her own online clothing and accessories business.
Wilburgh’s life as an entrepreneur began in July last year just around the height of the pandemic and ever since its existence, it has been taking the local fashion industry by storm. Her business has grown to be a number one choice by many for its latest trendy and fashionable options.
In a recent interview with The Waterfalls, Wilburgh said initially, she was seeking a job but given the impact of the pandemic, it was difficult to find any. So that is when she decided to become her own boss and launch her own business, ‘Styleoutgy’.
It all started, she recalled, a while back while waiting, for what seemed like forever, to get her nails done. Thinking to herself that enough was enough, she researched for a better solution that would give her the same service but in a faster way. That is when she discovered a wide range of press on nails. These are artificial or acrylic nails that are already designed, so clients only have to now glue it on their natural nails.
According to her, they are way easier to put on, “cheap and saves you time.”
“When the pandemic hit, a lot of people couldn’t keep up, especially if you’re a trendy person. No one wanted to wait a few hours. We took the initiative to supply nails,” she related.
Wilburgh’s business, which will reach its one-year anniversary next month, does not only sell press on nails but it also offers a wide range of the fashionable apparel and accessories to suit just about any social event.
Since ‘Styleoutgy’ was launched, Wilburgh related that the support has been very rewarding and overwhelming, so much so, that it drives her to do more. “To know you have that support, it gives you the drive to overcome whatever challenges you face regardless of the situation,” she shared.
Some of these challenges, she explained, included finding quality suppliers. With an evolving fashion industry, quality products are vital to clients. So, keeping up and trying to fill that gap gets challenging sometimes, Wilburgh related. Another challenge was the heavy shipping fees to import products. This, she explained, affects the price of her products which becomes a challenge since her aim to make her items as affordable as possible.
Another hardship she has faced lies in the completion of orders. “Ensuring your orders are correct along with customers being satisfied is challenging. We’re based online so there’s no storefront at the moment. As such, we ensure the interaction and the services customers receive are excellent since we’re the first point of interaction,” she noted.
With regard to the pandemic, Wilburgh disclosed, “yes it has its fair share of challenges” but since she is motivated to be successful, she is confident that she can overcome anything.
In moving forward, Wilburgh said she is looking to “create a stellar reputation” while at the same time building her brand and increasing sales.
Our featured entrepreneur is of the belief that young people contribute significantly to our society by introducing fresh ideas and smarter products that make people’s day-to-day life easier.
While raising the bar too, she explained that they create significant job opportunities for others while at the same time helping to build the country’s economy.
The young woman is also convinced that government can help in many ways to boost small businesses in Guyana. This, she said, can be done by implementing programmes that can assist small businesses with funding. “A capital in any business is vital. It’s very much important. It fuels the business. By doing this, it encourages people to take that step forward,” she asserted.
Another way she suggested is by investing in young people. Twenty-four-year-old Wilburgh related that, “We have tons of persons who aren’t employed and as such because of frustration in society, it leads to crime and violence. By investing in young persons who show that interest, it creates a pathway for young budding individuals who can contribute greatly to the economy and to society as a whole.”
