Matches in the West Demerara /Essequibo Island Circle Tennis Sub- Association & AL Sport & Tour Promotions’ 56th Independence Anniversary Inter School Mixed Team Tournament were played at the Den Amstel Community Centre Ground, recently.
The event was coordinated by National Sports Commission (NSC)/Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport (MCYS), Sport Officer, Alistair Munroe.
The tournament saw Leguan Island Secondary, Essequibo Island Secondary and Parika Salem Secondary all booking their place in the semifinals.
Leguan won the toss and entered the circle first as they made 65-3 off their 30 deliveries with Brian Samaroo (21) and Budhram Sharma (14) leading the way as Vergenoegen Secondary replied with 25-3.
Essequibo Island Secondary (Wakenaan Island) made 77-0, with Vickram Ramnarine (47) top scoring as Zeeburg Secondary were restricted to 39-1 in reply.
Parika Salem Secondary posted 74-0 with Shaul France top scoring (34) against West Demerara Secondary, who replied with 47-1, with top scorers Malika Farley (13), Tarique Alleyne (12), Amy Persaud (12).
This programme was made possible by through support from Ansa Mc Al Trading Guyana, Guyana Telephone &Telegraph Co Ltd, Team Mohamed’s, Department of Youth MCYS and the NSC for providing the Technical Personnel.
The action continued on Friday at the Tuschen Community Ground.
