Magnum ‘Unfinished Business’ Futsal Championship…
The Magnum ‘Unfinished Business’ Futsal Championship was officially launched yesterday at the Ansa McAl headquarters in Beterverwagting (BV), East Coast Demerara.
The competition, which commences tomorrow at the National Park tarmac, will feature the top four finishers from the previously concluded Magnum Independence Cup.
Defending champion Back Circle will oppose Gold is Money, whilst Sparta Boss will lock horns with Bent Street. The respective winners will advance to the final, with the loser contesting the third place playoff.
Edison Jefford, coordinator of the tournament, said that the event is the ultimate rematch of the top four teams, adding that the organizing crew will be working closely with the Guyana Police Force to ensure that no stone is left unturned on ensuring security for all patrons.
He further stated that the previous tournament was incident free which is a narrative that the organizing committee wants to maintain, noting that the event continues the historic rivalry between the competing teams and communities.
Meanwhile, Magnum Brand Manager Jamal Baird stated that all systems are in place for the staging of the tournament, adding that the previous tournament was a tremendous success, and that brand will be aiming to “Tek Charge” tomorrow in an effort to provide another exhilarating evening of action.
Similarly, Triston Freeman, Lucozade Brand Manager, revealed the brand is synonymous with grassroots development, and that the overwhelming support of the previous tournament made it easy for their continued partnership with the event.
Also, Aliyah Hamilton, Ansa McAl Corporate Communications Officer, disclosed that the company which will be celebrating its 30 year anniversary, has consistently invested in youth and sport development, adding that the Magnum Independence Cup is evidence of the company’s commitment to the development of the local human capital.
She further stated that football has a positive future locally, and that brands such as Lucozade and Magnum would have certainly played their part in cultivating a positive environment.
The winner of the mini championship will pocket $300,000, while the second, third and fourth place sides will walk away with $150,000, $100,000, and 50,000 respectively.
