Dear Editor
We have a head of state who is the head of nothing, other than maybe a small faction of his own, beholden to him for favours, and not much else. He is a President who is not really the president. What is this? What is going on? What is really going on in this wonderful land? Up comes the mighty VP, and immediately the waters muddy. He certainly has all the powers of a reigning viceroy, which is no secret anymore. If there is one component that matters most, it is that first part of his sometimes-hyphenated official title, which is a running joke all by itself.
Let’s cut the, ah, er, nonsense. The Vice President is the President, and let that be that; stop the playing around with the population, constitution, and the lovely lads and lass (es) having jurisdiction at the CCJ. All the speculations from before elections regarding what his role was going to be have been unequivocally put to bed. Rock a bye baby, on a tree top. Yeah, I see a country on a treetop and people with a grass skirts mentality. Real Stone Age cave people, Guyanese are.
Then, we have a fine “fella” who is a Guyana scholar, as I have been told. He is the finance man without being the finance man. Say what? Instead of being the money man, he is pleased to be the shadowy man, and boxer’s punching dummy, and gets better at it all the time. Just take me outside, and put me out of my misery, please. I am at a loss that a man with that kind of academic elevation would take orders from anybody who did study Russian style subversion and suppression. Some kind of scholar is he. “Ah wandah wah he studee…,” this country is not only upside down, but behind (expletive deleted) backwards. Somebody should try figuring that one out and tell me what is truly taking place here.
Next, there is this fine gentleman in charge (on paper) at Natural Resources, who they tell me used to teach at the university. Well, I hope that it is not about leadership. If anything, he has been the most resourceful person I have ever come across in making himself invisible, inaudible, and intangible as it relates to his job portfolio. Don’t ask me how he does that, but it is all to make the big boss (not the paper President) believe that he is infallible. How is that for leadership! I love it; this is a “laff” a minute, with plenty leftover. What a country!
“Think of this: oil rose up from the seabed and poor Guyanese went down deeper into the ground. It’s capitalism, stupid, not Exxon. And if anyone believes for a moment that I am sparing our PNC and PPP politicians, here it comes. The only thing true about them is that they exist on land. Talk about lie! Tell me about teef! Deh could really lie and teef. And the kicker and creamer in this reverse society is that these are the types of cult leaders that de peeple worship, who can do no wrang fuh dem. De leaders rabbing dem blind and de people tun round and payin dem to do so. Is wha kind ah place dis? To ask and answer, as the legal buzzards would say, this is the land that not only time forgot, but the same one that Gawd fuget tuh. I have to get a nice, sweet gig for myself, and I know just the one: Minister without Portfolio. In that manner, I get to be a roving ambassador, get close to the big man, and get a piece everywhere. I’ve always been a capitalist, and I know where the money tree is, and whose buttons to push. I might be the only sane man in this Guyana.”
Sincerely,
GHK Lall
