Dear Editor,
The extensive canal system in place in the country is very under-utilised. There is also a requirement to expand the system to ease the flooding. His Excellency has initiated the discussion on investing further in Hope Canal. Expansion of the project’s scope should be considered, as our waterways offer the opportunity to develop a non-automotive transportation network. Solar and renewable energy options are also now available and viable for such an undertaking. The recent shift occurring in the fishing sector of the economy has made our fishermen and fisherwomen available to participate in such a project. The current Administration should consider conducting a feasibility study in support of a transportation, drainage and infrastructure strategy that incorporates the use and development of our waterways.
Best regards,
Mr. Jamil Changlee
