Dear Editor
In response to Freddie Kissoon article about “The incredible return of colonial mentality in Guyana” (Sunday May 29 KN) Mr. Kissoon should not be so quick to judge the mentality of Guyanese but should have further searched why are Guyanese buying imported jams/jellies instead of supporting our own locally made ones. Freddie would be surprised, as I was, that the imported 450 grams = 15.8733 oz. of strawberry or mixed fruit jelly is cheaper than the locally made 12 oz. jar of guava or pine jam/jelly. This has nothing to do with colonial mentality, but everything to do with being shrewdly economical.
Regards
Gloria Holder
