Dear Editor,
Sugar benefits again! This time, it is the workers at the Uitvlugt Estate as a menu of measures were rolled out, including business grants, up to quarter million dollars, it is alleged.
The workers it was explained have been out of work since March due to the malfunctioning of the factory. But wasn’t the $40,000: five days a week jobs allocated to the region through an initiative of the VP, plus, a promise made for the estate to find work six days a week for the affected workers? So what is the justification for these additional measures at the expense of other sections of the populace?
It is worth repeating: public servants got seven percent increase, old age pension was given three thousand dollars, and NIS, facing stark realities, cannot give an increase. However, sugar is in a category of its own and will get the last dollar from the Treasury, or so it seems.
