Dear Editor,
I am compelled to revisit and reignite my passion for fairness, justice and fair play. My missive was and its injustice meted out to one of Guyana’s female luminary by the name of Sita Ramlal, a female Legal Luminary who has lectured at the University of Guyana, Department of Law.
To deny Ms. Ramlal the honour of being the recipient of this prestigious award is both unconscionable and ungrateful on the part of the recommender as well as such Luminaries as Rex McKay, Keith Massiah and Sase Narain. What a travesty!
My research informs me that in the entire Caribbean every Solicitor General is conferred with SILK or Senior Counsel or Queens Counsel. Ms. Ramlal is the only Solicitor General not that fortunate. This is ridiculous!
Ms. Ramlal should have been without doubt be among the early women at the recent awardees of SILK. Mr. Anil Nandalall and Mr. Timothy Jonas: The former being her student in the department of law at the University of Guyana.
Ms. Ramlal is Human and must be depressed to experience this unconscionable happening and being the victim of an unjust society and denied by both APNU+AFC coalition and PPP/C.
I do hope the powers that be would bring closure to this unfortunate and unpleasant state of affairs by making right this wrong and bring some much needed mental relief to someone who is deserving of respect and honour for her 30 years sterling contribution as a Public Servant including her moulding of numerous students in the Department of Law at the University of Guyana.
Yours faithfully,
Umar Saied
