As preparations have begun in earnest at the Rising Sun Turf Club for the 14th Running of the Guyana Cup, the Jagdeo Racing Stable has cleared their 4th shipment of horses. On Wednesday 19th May, 2022 at approximately 5pm, four horses arrived at CJIA and were meet by representatives of the Jagdeo Racing Stable. A team of handlers with years of experiences was on hand to supervise the offloading process.
Upon arrival the horses were thoroughly inspected by the Guyana Livestock Development Authority and offloaded to be quarantined for approximately 4 days. Upon their release they will be loaded into the mobile stables and transported to Corentyne.
The first horse to be ushered out of the air stable was Unsettled, a mare born and bred in Trinidad. The second was Golden D’or and the name implies the Chestnut 5-year old winner is of Jamaican breed. The second air stable was then placed in offloading area for the third horse, Tequila Sunrise a 4 year old colt was led out. The last of the batch was an unnamed 2-year-old of Trinidad breed with an impeccable training history.
Jagdeo Racing Stable owner Jingo Jagdeo was on hand to talk to our reporters. He outlined that, “Our Stable has 7 horses that will be running at Guyana Cup in August. Coming out of a stellar victory with Santa Cruz Lady at the Easter Sunday races at Port Mourant Racing Turf we are extremely optimistic. Our training structure is exclusive to our stables therefore giving us the advantage.
Horseracing has become a livelihood for many and we need to see more corporate sponsorship coming in. It’s unfair as stable owners we have to stand 100 percent of the cost attached to these international horses. Importing feed and especially supplements is very costly and its time the world acclaimed sport be recognized by the Government and be inducted as an official Sport. But until then for those who love it, will fund until our hard work pays off.”
Mr. Jagdeo had a warning to his challengers, “From the Jagdeo Racing Stable and myself, Jingo will be coming to take over Guyana Cup, walk away with the trophies and prize money while others watch on.”
