In 1902 a Bajan Tailor named Ferdinand Archer founded the Malteenoes Sports Club, now 120 years later, Deborah McNichols is the Club’s President and along with her members, she is determined to make difference to a club she called home since 2003.
With funds badly needed to sustain cricket clubs, especially in the City, the annual 6ixes tournament was not held since 2019 when DCC won the title.
All Roads lead to the MSC ground on May 2 and 5 as the Club, in collaboration with its Players Committee, presents the return of the annual sixes ‘winner take all’ 10 team Knock out competition.
Three team from Berbice and two from Essequibo will challenge DCC for the title and $300,000 in cash and prizes.
The 6 overs tournament will have seven players each side and proceeds from the tournament will be used to develop various aspects of the club.
Star Party Rentals, Jacobs Jewellery, Magic City, Atlantic Marines, Adolphus Mining Inc. are some major sponsors on board the fund raising event, while in addition to what should be exciting Cricket those in attendance will be entertained by pulsating music with Food, drinks and Hookah.
“Our biggest challenge to bringing back MSC to its best days is funding and a decreased membership, but I am confident that this executive, elected in the middle of the pandemic, will work to promote the club as somewhere people would want to join and spend their afternoons,” said the only female President of a club in the Caribbean which plays First Division cricket.
Those desirous of supporting this Event can contact Kefa on 664-5035 or Marcus on 677-6003. (Sean Devers)
