Captain Riaz Kadir has expressed confidence of Assassins winning this year’s Dassie and Friends Production 10-10 knockout Round-Arm softball one-day extravaganza on Saturday, May 21st at Keele Top facility, North York, Toronto.
According to Kadir, the team is in preparation for the tournament which will be played in memory of Johnny Bujan, the second edition.
Assassins claimed a comprehensive victory over Challengers last year at the aforementioned venue and Kadir stated that they are coming with the same level of motivation.
“I [am] confident of winning the competition again; I know it would be competitive knowing other teams coming out to win too but we are eager to make an impression again,” Kadir, a flamboyant right-handed batsman, declared.
Eight teams are set to vie for monetary prizes in what should be some fascinating encounters. Bujan died in 2016 at the age of 48 owing to a vehicular accident in Trinidad and Tobago. He was a former Canada Cricket Manager and co-owner of Brampton Masters Cricket Club that won several champions in the annual Toronto and District Cricket Association competitions.
Kadir continued to say the guys played with great excitement last year but remembering Bujan was very saddened. He reckoned that once his players compete to be best of their abilities, they are bound to repeat the success.
“It is about smart cricket; we might have few changes as some players going switch to other teams but I am still optimistic that we can be the victorious side on May 21st,” Kadir, the Berbician, related.
Reflected on what would have transpired in 2021, Kadir said the team performed outstandingly well throughout the day and demonstrated their strength in every department. He is predicting the same commitment.
In the final which was reduced to a six-over contest due to rain, Assassins surpassed Challengers’ moderate 58-2. Pugnacious left-handed batsman Avish Rukhram led the way with dashing an unbeaten 53.
Meanwhile, organizer Damodar Daesrath also notified that the stage is set for the one-day event. He is also confident of seeing an eventful day and thanks the teams in advance for their participation.
The winning side will collect Cds $2,000 and a trophy, while the losing finalist will take home Cds $500 and a trophy as well.
Daesrath, a former Guyana first-class Captain and who also represented Canada at the highest level, stated that his gratitude goes out to the two main sponsors for the day and they are: ALARM TECHZ and KP Employment Solutions INC.
The action is slated to bowl off at 09:30 am.
