PanAm body presents posthumous award to the late Gokarn Ramdhani
Day 3 of the PanAm Individual Badminton Championship in El Salvador saw the curtains close on the Guyanese contingent who played strong and valiantly and got to the Round of 16 in Men’s Singles and Mixed Doubles and Quarter-Finals in the Men’s Doubles.
Vishnu Tolan, President Badminton PanAm, presents the Award to Priyanna and Narayan Ramdhani in recognition of the contributions of their father to the sport.
The results are as follows: Men’s Singles Round of 16 (Round 3), Narayan went up against Olympian Brian Yang, ranked No. 33 in the World and also the No. 1 seed in the tournament and lost 21-2, 21-8.
Mixed Doubles, Round of 16 (Round 3), The Ramdhani Siblings went up against Ty Alexander Lindeman and Josephine Wu of Canada and lost 21-11, 21-9.
Men’s Doubles, Quarter Finals (Round of 8), Narayan Ramdhani and Nicholas Bonkowsky went up against Job Castillo and Luis Armando Navarro of Mexico and lost 21-14, 21-7.
The Guyana Badminton Association would like to commend the players for a great performance at this tournament, this is the furthest we have ever come in this highly ranked tournament which provides a pathway for the players to qualify for the Panam Games 2023 in Chile. Once again gratitude is extended to the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports and the National Sports Commission for making this possible, a release from the association noted.
An award was also presented posthumously to Gokarn Ramdhani for his contribution to Badminton in the Pan Am Region. The award was received by his children Narayan & Priyanna. Gokarn Ramdhani served on the Executive Committee of Badminton Panam for the past four (4) plus years.
