Kaieteur News – Fifty-six-year old Mohan Toolsie of Coverden, East Bank Demerara was on Tuesday killed in an accident on the Bagotstown Public Road, East Bank Demerara.
According to a police report, around 07:45 hours on Tuesday, as Toolsie attempted to cross from the eastern to western side of the Bagotstown road, he was struck by motor lorry GZZ 1233, which was being driven by a 25-year-old man of Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
It was reported that the truck was proceeding north along the eastern carriageway when Toolsie disembarked a parked motor pickup, GNN 7019, which was on the eastern carriageway facing south and attempted to cross the carriageway.
Toolsie then reportedly jumped over the concrete median at the centre of both carriageways and ended up in the path of the motor lorry.
The police reported that the driver applied brakes to avoid a collision, but due to the short distance, the motor lorry collided with Toolsie. Toolsie received injuries to his body and he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT).
Further, a breathalyser test was conducted on the driver of the lorry and no trace of alcohol was detected. According to the police, the truck driver remains in custody, as investigations continue.
Toolsie’s body was taken to the Sandy’s Funeral Home where it is awaiting a post mortem examination.
