GCB Dave’s West Indian Imports U-15 Inter-County…
By Sean Devers in Essequibo
Kaieteur News – An incisive spell of pace bowling from Man-of-the-Match Darwin Larose who captured 5-19, led Demerara to an emphatic 76-run win via the Duckworth/Lewis/ Stain system in a rain affected game against Essequibo on Friday at the well maintained Imam Bacchus ground in Affiance on the Essequibo Coast.

Overnight and early morning rain affected the bowlers’ run-up and delayed the start of the first inter-county game in Guyana’s largest County, in over a decade as the GCB Dave’s West Indian Imports U-15 tournament bowled off with Demerara joining Berbice in winners’ row in round one.
The game, which commenced three hours late, was reduced from 50 to 30 overs and the home team invited Demerara to bat in overcast conditions on a track with a bit of moisture and a fast outfield. This was before another shower stopped play with the host on 42-8 from 18, further reducing the game to 22 overs.
Essequibo where eventually dismantled for 45 in 22 overs as the burly Zanden Rose top scored with six off Larose, which was his only scoring shot while extras contributed 20.

Once Shane Prince held a left-handed return catch in the first over to send back the 11-year-old American based Ethtan Silas, nephew of Boxer Elton Dharry, who fought for the WBC International title last night, it was 1-1.
Larose struck in the second over when he trapped Omarion Smith, also for a duck at 2-2 and it was all downhill from there as Larose ripped through the innings like a knife cutting butter while Prince (2-8) and Dave Mohabir (2-0) supported well.
Earlier, the home team, urged on by a fair-sized vocal gathering, were off to a wonderful start as the visitors slipped 28-4 and then 53-5.
Christopher Williams bowled Josiah Lin for duck at 1-1 while the impressive and energetic Earo Benjamin removed two of Demerara’s two best batters Kishan Silas (4) and Mohabir (0) in consecutive balls to be on hat-trick.
Benjamin trapped Emmanuel Lewis (13) LBW at 28-4 and when Arun Gainda was run out for four, Demerara were wobbling on the ropes with 53 on the board.
But positive batting by Dhanesh Persaud (29) and Mickel Sharma (27) revived the position with an important 49-run stand before they were both dismissed by Williams.
An unbeaten cameo of 14 from Prince rallied Demerara to 126-7 as Benjamin and Williams had three wickets each.
The tournament, which is being streamed live on YouTube, continues tomorrow with Berbice facing Demerara at Albion and the Rising Stars opposing Essequibo at Everest Ground. Both games are scheduled to commence at 09:30hrs.
Meanwhile, in the other first round match at Vikings Number 69 ground in Berbice, the host beat the Rising Stars select U-15 by 146 runs in a game reduced to 48 overs due to rain.
Berbice reached 196-9 in their allotted overs as Romario Ramdeholl (44) top scored and received assistance from Adrian Hetmyer (31), Razam Koober (25) and Rovin Boodwah (22).
Nicholas Hall took 3-24 for the Rising Stars Select U-15 Team who were dismissed for 50 as extras top scored. Right-arm speedster Arif Khan grabbed 4-8 to lead the attack.
