“Young entrepreneurs are breaking the barriers, creating opportunities with new technologies and encouraging competitive economies. We do not only do this for capital gain but we share our affluence with others to understand the globalised societies.”

Kaieteur News – During the early stages of the global pandemic, COVID-19, many people like Meena Baljit, who was employed on the Carnival Cruise Line, were confined to their homes in order to protect themselves from contracting the deadly virus.
With the extra time on her hand, Baljit recently shared how this new adjustment led her to introduce her first business venture. “I felt the pandemic has given people the opportunity to find their inner skills, and that altogether prompted me to start something,” she said.
Her business, Creationsveragy, was launched on the April 28, last year. It was inspired by her daughter, Vera Projkoski, and is a personalised gift shop that creates that special gift idea with a sentimental touch.
The idea to venture into this type of business, Baljit said, came from watching videos on TikTok. “I saw something that caught my eyes, and that was a machine that creates crafts. More or less, it had 300 plus crafts you can do with that machine. I said to myself, ‘this isn’t difficult, and I can do what I love while making someone else happy in the process and also be able to spend time with my newborn’, as it was time to adjust to full time mommy life, and as such, I gave it a test run,” she explained in a recent interview with this publication.
Having acquired the machine, the mother of one disclosed that at the beginning, it was a bit rough but with the backing of some amazing family members and friends, her business started to grow. Apart from family and friends’ support, she noted that social media platforms played a big part as well in terms of bringing in new clients. With her business page being shared, she disclosed, people quickly started to fall in love with what her business offers.
Although she has had her fair share of challenges, Baljit said that she has thus far managed to overcome most.
“Challenges I have faced included adapting to the programme and learning how to better my product quality. At first, it was difficult as I did not know much about materials and best quality, and I would have wasted materials which in turn caused me losses as all material were imported. I have, however, managed to overcome these challenges by watching hours of YouTube videos and teaching myself the shortcuts,” the young woman explained. But the pandemic, she said, more impacted her business positively. This is since she was able to use her time to better her craft. “I must say if not for the pandemic, I won’t be where I am right now – a young upcoming business entrepreneur,” she quipped with pride.
In moving forward with her brand, Baljit highlighted two of her long-term goals. Her first proposed goal is to have a remote location for her production or simply have an established crafting shop as an addition to her gift shop. Currently, she operates her business at her home which is offered to the public online with two days of delivery around Georgetown to facilitate her customers.
Her second goal is to share the knowledge of her craft to upcoming entrepreneurs who are desirous of being in this field. “I would like to hold workshops free of charge to teach the programme and shortcuts to upcoming young entrepreneurs in this field. It will or will not be full time for someone but it sure will give that passive income to that someone who is interested in this field,” the 26-year-old entrepreneur elaborated.
Our featured young entrepreneur is of the firm belief that “Young entrepreneurs are breaking the barriers, creating opportunities with new technologies and encouraging competitive economies. We do not only do this for capital gain but we share our affluence with others to understand the globalised societies.”
When asked what more can be done to boost small business locally, Baljit suggests that there be more community engagement in this regard. This way, she said, it gives one’s business more exposure which in turn can improve sales. “We must engage with communities by having numerous pop-up shops, allowing our fellow locals to participate. This will in turn allow exposure to that business, allowing magazines, newspapers, television, radio and social media platform as another form of exposure to highlight your business on a regular basis and finally partnering with other businesses to drive sales,” she noted.
Persons interested in placing an order can contact the young woman via WhatsApp on telephone number (592) 634-3309 or check her out on any of the social media platforms at Creationsveragy1.
