Just two days remain before the commencement of the Rugby Americas North (RAN) Sevens Championship on the isle of Bahamas, where Guyana’s Green Machine are set to compete from April 23 – 24.
Director of Sports Steve Ninvalle (right) makes a contribution of $2M to the Rugby Union for their overseas journey.
Prior to their departure, the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) received monetary support to the tune of G$2 million from the National Sports Commission (NSC) to help off-set expenses while attending the event.
Guyana’s schedule will feature Curacao in the opening match on Saturday from 11:56hrs then they battle Jamaica at 15:14hrs before their final preliminary match against Bahamas at 18:54hrs.
The 13-man squad has already departed with Sevens Head Coach Theodore Henry and Manager, Ryan Dey.
The squad includes Jamal Angus, Godfrey Broomes, Tyrese Prescod, Avery Corbin, Michael Barrow, Michael Edwards, Lancelot Adonis, Owen Adonis, Peabo Hamilton, Rickford Cummings, Lionel Holder, Vallon Adams, and Matthew Talbot.
The non-traveling reserves named were Dwayne Schroeder, Adrian Hall, Joshua Griffith and David Garnette.
The top two men’s teams and one women’s team from the event will book their ticket to the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022 in Cape Town, South Africa in September, while the highest-placed men’s team is eligible to participate in The Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, England in July.
That team will represent RAN, alongside Canada who has already pre-qualified for both the men and women divisions.
