The start of the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association (UCCA) Vishnu Super Store Inter Club 40 overs cricket competition got under way last Sunday. However, the dominant factor was the inclement weather which washed out a number of matches.
Results of some matches played saw: No64 Fighting Marines conquering No52 Survivals by 49 runs. The No64 Marines reached 142 with Kamer Chan 44, Vadnand Sugrim 21 and Colin Leecock 19. Bowling for Survivals, Sanjay Mohan took 4 wickets.
In reply they were bowled out for 93 with Raymond Nandalall 27 and Orlando Campbell 19.
Bowling for the Marines Charles Francis and Kamer Chan took 3 wickets each.
In the game between No70 MYO and No70 Young Blood; MYO won by 45 runs after taking first strike and reaching 146 all out. Extras led the way with 48 with Y. Salim 34 and Ahmad Khan 19.
Bowling for The Young Blood there were 4 wickets for P. Nickey and 3 for Fazil Alim.
In reply Young Blood ran cold and were dismissed for 101 with Extras and Rasheed Khan leading with 27 each. Bowling for MYO there were 4 wickets for Vijai Khan and 3 for Anand Mohamed.
In another game, No71 Sports Club whipped Eagles Cricket Club by 235 runs.
No71 batted first and galloped to 251 with T. Persaud 89, R. Singh 51 and R. Rampersaud 32. Extras were a healthy 55. Bowling for Eagles T. Persaud 3 and I Jamesy 2 wickets led the bowling.
Eagles were then bundled out for 16 with R. Roopraj and R. Appiah taking 4 wickets each.
The game between No69 Vikings and Gladiators saw Vikings winning by 61 runs.
Vikings made 159 with Vinandra Goniah 65, Antonio February and Extras19 each.
Bowling for Gladiators Steven Jacobs picked up 5 wickets as they in turn were dismissed for 96 with Steven Sukhoo 31 and Extras 24 their main contributors. Bowling for Vikings Divinash Seecharran, Y. Nandram and Gooniah picked up 3 wickets each.
In a close encounter between Skeldon Community Centre and Race Course Vitality, Skeldon CC won by 6 runs.
Skeldon CC made 161 batting first with Soman Chitnarine 90 (4×4, 2×6), Extras were 33.
Harris Sahadeo picked up 3 wickets bowling for Race Course Vitality as they in reply came close to end on 155. Jerry Moore 43, Rawle Jabbar 35, Eton Odel 18 and extras 23 were the contributors. Saif Kamal with 5-22 was the main wicket taker for Skeldon CC.
No70 A Spartans gained a walkover over No72 All Stars after the latter failed to show up for their encounter at No70 A Spartans ground.
The competition is expected to continue next Sunday with 15 matches at various venues throughout the Upper Corentyne Black Bush areas.
Some 30 teams participating with the teams placed into four zones.
Cash, trophies and other incentives will be awarded to the top teams and outstanding individual players.
The competition is being coordinated by the UCCA competitions committee which is being led Vice President Former National Wicketkeeper batsman Sydney Jackman. (Samuel Whyte)
