Mar 27, 2022 Letters
Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – The Aircraft Owners Association of Guyana (AOAG) wrote to the Minister of Public Works on 10th March, 2022, on matters of considerable concern to our membership. The letter was intended for the eyes only of the Minister but, unfortunately, was irresponsibly leaked on Facebook and, subsequently, extracts were published in the media.
Let me be clear. The AOAG does not conduct our business on social media or make use of dishonest tactics to ‘have its way’. We represent an Industry that heavily depends on trust decorum and appropriate relationships. This is the fundamental fuel that Commercial Aviation runs on worldwide.
I can categorically state without fear of contradiction, that no member of the AOAG was responsible for the leak of the letter.
In fact, the AOAG represents some thirteen (13) primary companies in the aviation industry, except Air Services Limited (ASL), who have elected not to be a member of the oldest representative body of the aviation industry in Guyana. It has, however, been the practice of the Association to share with Air Services Limited, which is one of the largest aircraft operators in the country, positions taken by the Association on industry matters. This practice has been successful numerous times as a collective representation of the industry within the last year.
The Association was, therefore, surprised by the letter published in the Kaieteur News on 20th March, 2022, from Capt. A Mazahar Ally, Managing Director of Air Services Limited and its subsidiary companies, since, in fact, our letter was shared with the Accountable Manager of ASL.
Our letter speaks for itself and it is not, therefore, our intention to debate it in public with Capt. Ally, except to say that we are disappointed in and do not support his remarks with regard to the administration of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). We prefer to have constructive dialogue among industry professionals which we are still open to doing despite your refusal to see us.
We have requested and look forward to meeting with the Minister on the subject of our letter.
An acrimonious relationship with the Minister is the last thing any Airline would wish for.
Yours sincerely,
Capt. Gerald Gouveia (Jnr.)
President
