Dear Editor,
I am a resident of Massy Road, Providence who have no choice but to use the short drop car park on a daily basis. When I first moved into the scheme the fare from the head of Massy road to the scheme was $100. The drivers who are working this scheme have become very abusive to passengers. A few months ago, there was a video posted on the page of a very popular social media personality of a passenger being verbally and physically abused by one of the said drivers. Most of the drivers who work the scheme are not hire car drivers rather they operate private cars. During the week after 6pm and on Sundays, the fare increases to $200 and if you refuse to pay this then you are left stranded and or abused. There is no order on this car park and I’m not even sure if this car park was approved by the NDC and or the Guyana Police Force . Recently the tyres of a bus that was being driven by a woman who decided to work the scheme was reportedly slashed by some of these drivers. Most of them can be seen drinking and smoking while having passengers in their vehicles. They also play loud profanity laced music while having school children in their vehicles. I am appealing to the Traffic Chief to kindly look into this matter.
Concerned resident
