2022 Concacaf W Championship Qualifiers…
Kaieteur News – Guyana national women’s team, the Lady Jags, began their qualification bid for the 2022 Concacaf women’s championship in great fashion with a 4-0 triumph over Dominica and a 7-0 drubbing of Turks & Caicos in their first two Group F matches. Guyana’s upcoming matches are against Nicaragua and Trinidad & Tobago.
Dr. Ivan Joseph, coach of the local women’s team, during a zoom press conference yesterday mentioned that, “We’re very pleased with our first round performance. We’re not satisfied but we’re pleased. Our main objective was to come away with results where we would still be in a position to finish in first place of our pool, and we accomplished that.”
Dr. Joseph hailed the exploits of the local based players in the squad with special mention of Annalisa Vincent as one of the best takeaways from the first round of qualifying matches.
In addition, the coach hailed the overall composition of the squad which he believes has the right mix of youth and experience that now gives him the question of what’s the best XI to put forward.
Nicaragua will be a tough opposition according to the coach. He described them as very technical and this side had beaten Turks and Caicos 19-0 while Guyana only managed a 7-goal victory.
In addition, history has proven that Guyana does not do well against Trinidad and Tobago, so the coach is looking to change the lady jags poor record against them.
Guyana are top of the group F standings with six-points while Trinidad & Tobago, with a lesser goal difference are second with six, and Nicaragua are third with 3 points. Turks & Caicos and Dominica both have 0 points.
