Young Entrepreneur On The Move…
“Young entrepreneurs play a very important role in society. They provide goods and services to the community, create employment, promote innovation and resilience through experience-based learning and they also increase competitiveness within the market.”

Kaieteur News – Over the years we have seen many local artists exhibit very creative pieces including paintings, drawings and sculptures but how often do you come across an embroidered canvas in Guyana? Embroidery canvas art is not commonly practiced in the local industry but here to show that the art does exist is 19-year-old Adriel Lachmansingh, owner of the brand ‘Art And Adriel’ or ‘Triple A’.
The young woman in a recent interview with Kaieteur News recalled that when her interest initially sparked for this type of art, she started creating pieces for her own personal use with no intention of making it into a business. But all that later changed when a friend started to take notice of her work and insisted on purchasing one of her pieces.
“The inspiration to start Art And Adriel (AAA) came from a trend going around the internet in 2020 which was canvas embroidery. I made a few pieces just for fun because the pandemic gave me a lot more disposable time and I posted them on social media,” she recalled.
It was those unique pieces that caught the attention of that friend. “Since she was a close friend I figured why not, told her yes and that marked my first ever sale. The very one that set the wheel in motion for the start of my canvas embroidery business,” Adriel recollected.
The young entrepreneur explained that when the decision was made to be a part of the business arena, she was backed by tremendous support from her family and friends. Her older sisters, she said, would constantly encourage and motivate her to do whatever she puts her mind to. She revealed, they are a great help with her social media and the marketing aspect of her business.
As for her parents, she noted, “they are also consistently supportive especially in the early days when I was still finding my footing and creating Art And Adriel. My mom was always by my side for what could be hours of supply shopping, searching for the right canvas size, or colour embroidery thread and paint. My parents were always there to lend a helping hand or to give advice on this venture.”
A part from her family there was her friends who taught her that support for a small business does not only come from purchasing an item but also from simply sharing her art with others. Overall the ongoing love and support given by friends and family, she said, is what really makes her small business thrive.
Art And Ariel was officially opened in January 2021, and has been meeting the demand of many since then.
Our featured young entrepreneur highlighted that since being in operation, one major challenge the business encountered was during the busy Christmas season. During that period, she recalled some of the materials for her work were delayed in shipment. “Our suppliers of canvas and paint had little to no stock left, leaving AAA scrambling to find supplies from a new supplier during the Christmas season,” she recounted. Though it was a setback for her business, she did not lose sight of her goal and still satisfied her customers’ demand.
Notably, while the pandemic poses a challenge for many, this was not the case for this business venture. In fact, as the young woman would describe it, “it was our springboard into business.”
Since the pandemic forced a lot of businesses to go online, and her business is only online operational, Adriel stated that it does not only protect them from the virus but helps her business further its creativity in terms of its social media presence.
“It provided not only time to invest into creating the framework for our brand but also provided a way for me to reconnect with art and the act of creating. Honestly, without the pandemic, AAA would not exist,” she confessed.
The only objective for her business right now, she shared, is to create unique pieces of art that no one else in Guyana is providing.
When asked what responsibility young business people have in our country, Adriel asserted, “young entrepreneurs play a very important role in society. They provide goods and services to the community, create employment, promote innovation and resilience through experience-based learning and they also increase competitiveness within the market.”
Further, she noted that one way small businesses can be boosted in Guyana, is for local stores to utilise more locally made items and products. A gesture like that would not only bring about opportunities for small businesses but it also exposes them to wider markets, she added.
