Kaieteur News – On Thursday, around 10:57hrs, a single mother, Kherysha Pompey, gave birth to a baby girl in a hire car at the entrance to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
According to a press release issued by the hospital, before heading to the GPHC, Pompey who resides at 57, Craig Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, had gone to another medical institution
seeking admission for delivery. She was refused and told that she was not ready for delivery and that she should go to the GPHC. Accompanied by Rita, her neighbour, Pompey, writhing in pain, took a taxi to the GPHC. Upon arrival, Rita realised that Pompey’s water bag had broken and immediately started shouting for help. At the time, the taxi they were in had just approached the entrance of the facility.
Immediately, a young female attendant, Sophia Clarke, who is new to the job, on hearing the plea for help, sprung into action, opened the car door and rendered assistance to the mother, noticing that the baby’s head was protruding.
She was able to gently grab the head of the baby to assist the mother. Meanwhile, a team of five doctors headed by Dr. Balram Doodnauth, arrived on the scene to complete the smooth process of delivering the baby.
Both the healthy baby girl weighing 3kg, 200grams and mother are doing well and have been admitted to the GPHC’s maternity ward. The smiling mother, who was clinging to her new born baby, expressed her gratitude to the attendant and team of doctors who came to her rescue. She is also very appreciative of the GPHC for rendering immediate assistance.
The GPHC, in its statement, wished both mother and child the very best for a healthy and prosperous future.
