Kaieteur News – Popular Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) incumbent President Hilbert Foster was returned to the post by a 34 to 0 vote on Sunday when the board held its biennial Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the historic Port Mourant Cricket Ground. Foster and his entire Team Progress slate were elected unopposed, but delegates were still required to vote as per BCB rules. All thirty four delegates at the meeting supported the slate. A total of thirty eight delegates cast vote at the AGM but the two delegates from Mental Hospital and one each from Albion and the Berbice River Association were absent during the vote which was conducted by Returning Officer Colin Bynoe and assistants Winston Smith and Ryan Algu.
Other executives elected were Vice President- Cricket Development Qualis Wynter, Vice President Administration- Albert Smith, Vice President Finance- Dr Cecil Beharry, Secretary- Angela Haniff, Assistant Secretary- Ameer Rahaman, Treasurer- Rovin Beharry and Assistant Treasurer- Neil Rudder.
Foster, who was first elected in early 2018, has successfully spearheaded a restoration of Berbice cricket from a state of despair to one of high standards. He expressed thanks to the delegates for their confidence in his leadership and urged them to remain united in these uncertain times. He committed to leading an executive that would always lead by example and also to putting the development of the game and players first.
The newly reelected President also told his fellow executives that he expects them to place their hands firmly on the fast turning wheel of development and urged them to be more visible across the county. Executives were told that they must ensure that the BCB remains the most visionary, progressive and transparent board in the Caribbean. Foster, who is also a Director of Cricket West Indies stated that under his team leadership … there was no place for victimization, racism, laziness and corruption.
Delegates at the AGM were provided with a comprehensive report from the President, Treasurer and Competition Committee. The President informed delegates of the numerous achievements of the BCB in 2021 despite the ongoing covid 19 pandemic. Foster, stated that his executives followed the covid 19 guidelines and were able to organise tournaments, developmental programmes, expand its coaching programme and attract sponsorship for every one of its activities.
Special mention was made of the cooperation of the Government of Guyana and the RDC of Region Six. Delegates were also provided with a eight pages booklet of commitment by Foster, which highlights the work to be done over the next two years by his administration. The clubs and sub associations also approved the setting up of a Go Fund Me page for Berbice Cricket, with funding going towards assisting clubs, players and developmental programmes.
The newly elected executives held their first meeting, immediately after the AGM and re-elected Simon Naidu as the Public Relations Officer, while Vemen Walter, Shabeer Baksh, Eldgert Lyken Edwards, Omeshwar Srikissoon, Narine Deonarine, Gregory Crandon and Leslie Solomon were selected as appointed executives. Balram Samaroo was returned as Junior Selector Chairman, Albert Smith heads the Senior Selection Committee, while Leslie Solomon would continue to serve as Chairman of the Competition Committee.
The BCB also selected the names for their selection and other committees.

Senior Selection Committee for under 21, 23 and Seniors- Albert Smith- Head, Julian Moore- deputy, Balram Samaroo, Navin Lalbehari and Heeralall Bridgelall.
Financial- Rovin Beharry-Head, Dr Cecil Beharry, Neil Rudder, Suresh Dhanai and Qualis Wynter
Competition – Leslie Soloman- Chairman, Winston Smith, Balram Samaroo, Egnert Edwards, Ryan Algu, Roshan Gafoors, Neil Rudder, Angela Haniff, Rajin Kishun, Tremayne Smartt, Narine Deonarine.
Cricket Development- Qualis Wynter- Head, Albert Smith- Deputy, Julian Moore, Ryan Algu, Albert Smith, Winston Smith, Balram Samaroo, Travis Hardcourt, Tremayne Smartt, Ameer Rahaman
