Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – It should be noted that our local oversight bodies such as the EPA and Ministry of Agriculture may not be aware of the extent of the waste produced by the offshore oil and gas operations. There are quite a few regulations governing waste produced and the way it should be disposed. These can be found in the API RP 45 (American Petroleum Institute) and other related literature such as NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers – American/International) – Oilfield Water Technology.
If these folks are aware of the information contained in these manuals, it would be good to implement them. The treatment of the wastes should be paramount but this is not happening in Guyana.
Respectfully,
Suresh R. Seetaram
