Kaieteur News – Sterling Products Limited, in keeping with its annual tradition, on Monday rewarded the children of employees who scored well at the National Grade Six Assessment, with $70,000 each.
It was explained that the monetary reward is presented to those children who would have attained at least 70 percent at the examinations. The awardees were: Annelisa Ramotar, Arbaaz Gaffoor and Mariah Gharbaran, a release from the company stated.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sterling Products Limited, Mr. Ramsay Ali congratulated the successful students and their parents for their good performance at the examinations, despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The CEO noted that Sterling Products Limited has been undertaking the bursary awards for decades. “This is something we have been doing for 25 to 30 years. We do it at this level and then we do it at the secondary level. It’s important because anything that parents can get from us to assist in this process matters,” he noted. He emphasised the company’s commitment to education and the interests of their employees, saying, “We also take it a little further that when children do well in school, they can intern here. The kind of experience they get from working in the company is tremendous.”
Meanwhile, General President of the Clerical and Commercial Workers’ Union (CCWU), Mr. Sherwood Clarke stressed the importance of education to the students. He noted that the country is on a trajectory that requires skilled and qualified Guyanese. He lauded the company for its continuous efforts to support employees, saying, “The management continues to put education as a top priority. As you know, Guyana is in a state now of being transformative and with the discovery of oil and gas, education plays a critical role. I want to extend congratulations to the management and parents as they keep supporting the children.” The parents expressed their appreciation to the management of the company for recognising the children’s accomplishment at an early stage.
